Pop Encore Album Debuts at Number One on Music Chart

Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” Debuts at No. 1: Inside the Chart Impact of The Life of a Showgirl Encore

Taylor Swift has scored her eighth UK No. 1 single as “Patient Zero” debuts at the summit of the UK Official Singles Chart dated October 2, 2026. The result is Swift’s third UK chart-topper of 2026, and it arrives alongside another No. 1 for The Life of a Showgirl, which returns to the albums summit following the release of its Encore edition.

The paired result gives Swift a UK chart double, while the release’s impact extends beyond its lead new track: two more songs added to The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore also open inside the singles Top 5.

“Patient Zero” Gives Swift an Eighth UK No. 1

“Patient Zero” opens at No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, according to the Official Charts Company. It is Swift’s eighth career UK singles leader and her third of the year.

The debut places the song at the centre of a concentrated chart week for the Encore material rather than a standalone single campaign. All three of the release’s highest-charting new tracks reached the Top 5 immediately, giving the chart result a broader shape than one No. 1 debut alone.

The Encore Edition Drives a UK Chart Double

The Life of a Showgirl returned to No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart for its fifth non-consecutive week at the top. Combined with “Patient Zero” at No. 1 on the singles chart, the album’s return creates the UK chart double reported by the Official Charts Company.

The resurgence follows the September 24 release of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. The expanded edition adds four songs to the 2025 album: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” Apple Music’s release information credits Swift as a writer on the tracks alongside Max Martin and Shellback.

That timing matters to the week’s results. The album’s fifth week at No. 1 is non-consecutive, while the new songs supplied a separate burst of activity on the singles chart. In practical terms, the Encore edition has moved both sides of the chart at once: the parent album is back at the summit, and its newly added material has claimed prominent individual positions.

“Cleveland!” and “Babylon” Put Three Encore Tracks in the Top 5

“Patient Zero” was not the only Encore track to make an immediate mark. “Cleveland!” debuts at No. 3 and “Babylon” enters at No. 4, according to the Official Charts Company’s chart report. Together with “Patient Zero” at No. 1, those placements give Swift three songs in the UK Singles Chart Top 5 for the week.

“Pink Clouding,” the fourth song newly appended to the album, is part of the Encore track list, though the supplied chart report does not establish a position for it. The confirmed Top 5 entries nevertheless show that attention was distributed across the release, not confined to the song selected for the No. 1 debut.

For Swift, the sweep also keeps the focus on the expanded album as a unified release event. “Patient Zero” provides the headline chart statistic, but “Cleveland!” and “Babylon” make the case for the Encore edition’s wider first-week pull in the UK.

The VMA-Premiered “Patient Zero” Video

The chart-leading song was supported by a video directed by Swift, which premiered at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27. As Pitchfork reported, the video features Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.

Its arrival preceded the October 2 chart announcement by less than a week, tying the song’s visual rollout closely to the Encore release window. With “Cleveland!” and “Babylon” also beginning at Nos. 3 and 4, Swift’s latest UK No. 1 is part of a three-track Top 5 opening for The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
