It was during the “Plead the Fifth” segment that Andy Cohen broached the subject of whether Eminem had once offered Carey a role to portray his mother in the semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile. Carey acknowledged, “There is truth to that, but it’s unclear who first approached whom.”

The Feud and the Casting That Never Was

Cohen, probing deeper, inquired whether this proposal initiated their well-documented feud. Carey responded ambiguously, suggesting that her reaction to the casting offer may not have been the only cause of their friction.

Music producer Damion “Damizza” Young, in an interview on the TFU podcast, claimed he introduced Eminem to Carey. He revealed that Eminem wanted Carey, who was only four years his junior, to play his alcoholic mother, a role ultimately taken by Kim Basinger.
