Megan Thee Stallion’s Emotional Journey Towards Mental Health Advocacy
At the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation’s inaugural I Am the Table Benefit Brunch, Megan Thee Stallion, accompanied by actress Taraji P. Henson, opened up about her emotional path to realizing the necessity of mental health support. This event, held in Maryland on October 12th, marked a significant moment for Megan as she recounted the challenges that pushed her towards seeking help.
Megan’s journey into the public eye has been fraught with personal trials, including the devastating loss of her mother in 2019 due to a brain tumor, followed by her own harrowing experience of being shot by Tory Lanez in July 2020. The subsequent trial and the intense scrutiny on social media only compounded her mental anguish. Reflecting on these events, Megan admitted to the overwhelming sadness that once consumed her, stating it was a wake-up call to seek professional help.
Megan’s resolve to overcome these hurdles has led her to become a fervent advocate for mental health awareness. Her efforts were recognized in 2025 when she received the Mental Health Champion award from the Trevor Project. In her acceptance statement, Megan expressed her dedication to using her platform to challenge mental health stigmas and support those in need of resources.
Furthering her commitment, in 2022, Megan launched the Bad Bitches Have Bad Days Too wellness website. This initiative provides mental health resources, crisis hotlines, and therapy contacts, especially targeting the youth. Additionally, her involvement in the 2023 Seize the Awkward campaign helped promote open conversations about mental health, aiming to eradicate the associated stigmas.
