SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups and Mingyu Release “HYPE VIBES” Mini Album: An Artistic Journey

SEVENTEEN has become a hallmark of innovation and versatility in the K-pop scene since its debut in May 2015. The group, divided into three subunits, has allowed for diverse musical expressions which reflect each member’s individuality yet maintaining a cohesive team spirit.

The Hip-Hop Team, featuring S.Coups and Mingyu among others, has been instrumental in adding a dynamic layer to SEVENTEEN’s overall sound. This team’s ability to blend robust raps with melodious tunes has caught the attention of fans worldwide.

In an exciting development on September 29, S.Coups and Mingyu launched their new unit, CxM, which aims to showcase their joint musical affinities through the mini-album titled HYPE VIBES. This release marks a significant milestone in their careers, promising a deeper glimpse into their artistic personalities.

Deconstructing “HYPE VIBES”

The album’s creation was a journey of self-expression for both artists. “We wanted to make music that was genuinely reflective of us, without any pretense,” S.Coups shared during an interview. The collaboration with Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter Lay Bankz on the track “5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)” illustrates their initiative to blend classical pop influences with modern vibes.

The decision to interpolate Roy Orbison’s iconic “Oh, Pretty Woman” into their music points towards a fearless approach to transcending musical eras and genres, a sentiment echoed by Mingyu, “Our vision was never just about reaching international audiences but to create universally enjoyable music.”

Broader Horizons & Continued Success

From their first 200 entry in 2021 with Your Choice to the groundbreaking sale records of their 2023 release FML, SEVENTEEN has consistently upped their game. Their ability to fill stadiums around the world from Asia to North America, and even performing at major festivals in Europe, underscores their global appeal and the powerful connection they foster with fans.

As S.Coups puts it, “Our growth as artists and as a group is a continuous journey, and CxM is an extension of that path. We hope to add more colors and musical depth to SEVENTEEN’s spectrum through our unit activities.”

Insight Into the Creative Process

Discussing the synergy between them, Mingyu revealed, “Our similar tastes in music and style have often led us to consider a unit project. Finally aligning our schedules, we embarked on creating HYPE VIBES with songs that resonate with our shared and individual preferences.”

The album featuring six meticulously chosen tracks, involved BUMZU in the production, reflecting a combination of familiarity and innovation. S.Coups fondly speaks of the title track as the most meaningful, symbolizing a bridge between generational musical tastes.

“Our personal ‘VIBE’ at the moment is about enjoying the creative process and sharing our genuine selves through our music,” S.Coups added, emphasizing the authenticity that CxM aims to communicate with their fans.

Indeed, HYPE VIBES is not just an album, but a manifesto of S.Coups and Mingyu’s artistic vision, inviting fans to experience the depth and diversity of their musical talents.

Tapping into the heart of their creativity, S.Coups and Mingyu’s journey with HYPE VIBES sets an exciting precedent for what’s next in SEVENTEEN’s evolving narrative—promising more innovative music and unforgettable performances.
