Legal Drama Unfolds Between Andra Day and Former Manager

The Rising Conflict

What started as a professional relationship aiding the rise of singer Andra Day has devolved into a series of intense legal disputes with her former manager, Jeff Evans. The legal battles focus on the alleged mismanagement and exploitation of finances including royalties and earnings from her music and acting career.

Initial Claims

Jeff Evans lodged the first legal complaint in Los Angeles, alleging that Andra Day has been withholding rightful payments. His claim details a demand for his share from Day’s publishing revenues which, according to his calculations, include $1.5 million in advances from Kobalt in the past two years. Additionally, Evans seeks backend payments from Day’s involvement in the Netflix film The Deliverance.

The lawsuit filed by Evans through his attorneys, Edwin McPherson and Brian Caplan, insists that he is owed at least $850,000.

Counter Allegations by Andra Day

Responding with her own legal action, Andra Day contradicts the claims made by Evans. Day’s filing describes the royalty agreements as “exploitative” and states they were terminated back in 2023. She accuses Evans of serious financial misdeeds, including embezzling $600,000 from a recording fund allocated by Warner Records and taking over $1 million from her royalties.

Day’s attorney, James Sammataro, portrays Evans as a scheming manager who not only mismanaged her funds but also left her financially unstable, facing potential eviction and unable to sustain her music career.

Investigation and Public Statements

With both parties standing firm in their allegations, further investigation seems inevitable to untangle this complex financial dispute. Meanwhile, representatives for both sides have remained largely silent post the initial filings, potentially waiting for more concrete developments in court.
